Hoyt Lake and the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival

Today we headed out to the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival at the Buffalo History Museum. The kids were mostly excited about the trip to the playground near the rose garden, but I managed to get a few shots at the pair of locations. I spent the first half flying around Hoyt Lake.

Lucky for me, Addie decided to take a nap for the majority of my flying. It was a perfect day to get out and take some pictures.

Earlier this morning I made a trip out to the Rochester Air Center to take the sUAS knowledge test and get my commercial drone license. I was hoping to get a 100% on the test, but there were exactly three questions that I was unprepared for and I ended up with a 95–c’est la vie. The Rochester Air center is located at the Rochester airport just down the road from the National Guard base where I used to work. It was nice to see the helicopters on the flight line, but even more nice to know that I didn’t have to work this weekend.

Anyway, when you pass the test you normally have to wait a week to 10 days for the TSA to do a background check and get your certificate. Fortunately for me, I was able to get the it right away because I still have a commercial helicopter license (that I’ve never actually used!).

So there it is. After a week of studying and 140 miles later, I can now make money flying small unmanned aerial vehicles in the United States.

After the kids finished playing at the playground we headed back to the Cherry Blossom Festival. I spent a few minutes getting these shots from the opposite end of Mirror Lake and the Japanese Garden.
